Art for wheelchairs

In December 2011, I helped organise an art auction at the Saigon Opera as part of the Arts For Mobility annual event.  I was delighted that a drawing I’d donated sold at auction reaching a price that more than funded one wheelchair. The concert and art auction generated enough revenue to provide 100 wheelchairs for  disabled people in Vietnam.

It took some time for the wheelchairs to be built by Kids First Enterprise, a social enterprise that provides employment to people with disability. Today, there was a ceremony to give 40 of these wheelchairs to their new owners in an orphanage in Saigon. Young and old, it was a great opportunity for all of us to meet new people. This little fellow was delighted with his wheels!
